Characterisation of hazards, climate change events and impacts

Key concepts and generic approach for the characterization of natural hazards determining the magnitude, frequency and severity of the natural hazards, and how to consider and include these into the risk assessment by means of the elaboration of impact chains in a climate change context.

The report outlines the key variables to be taken into account when characterizing natural hazards, including climate change scenarios, as well as identification of other non-climate factors that can be defined as drivers influencing the hazard behaviour and its consequences locally. It provides a tool for the preliminary identification of direct and in-direct impacts and consequences of natural hazards that might occur tailored for cultural and natural heritage at different scales, by means of the definition of impact chains.
